WASHINGTON, February 15, 2010 – SRA’s Touchstone Consulting Group, a subsidiary of SRA International, provided a weekend of pro bono facilitation support for the StartUp Scramble™ D.C. University Challenge, an intense two-day event held to help launch young entrepreneurs’ business ventures on Jan. 29-31, 2010.

Hosted at SRA’s Washington, D.C. facilities, the StartUp Scramble was organized by Ashoka’s Youth Venture and Young Impact, along with a consortium of sponsors. The event brought together 60 aspiring social entrepreneurs from more than seven universities across the metro-Washington area. Teams of students worked to build and launch sustainable ventures that address social issues affecting local communities.

High-profile guest mentors, speakers and panel members, including Touchstone Vice President Emily Crespin, were in attendance. Students also had the opportunity to network with potential investors, service providers and employers.

Touchstone Senior Consultant Matt Davis served on the MBA/Young Professional panel, and spoke to participants about crafting and tightening their business pitches and models. “I was very impressed with the creativity and passion coming from our next generation of business leaders,” Davis said. “The meeting gave me some hope that our future will move to a place where financial returns and social impact are not separate criteria for success.”

Touchstone’s work for StartUp Scramble is part of an ongoing effort to promote commendable corporate citizenry and other efforts that resonate with SRA’s culture, core values and commitment to collaboration, participation, imagery and creativity.

The event concluded with the student teams pitching their ventures to a panel of judges, who selected 10 ideas to move forward for funding in Ashoka’s Youth Venture program.
